Explore south-east Slovenia

Most travel guides don’t mention the existence of Bohor. Don’t let that deter you. We know Slovenia inside and out and absolutely adore Lake Bohinj and the Soča Valley. Ljubljana is a delightful city. But nothing compares to the authentic countryside in these parts, in our opinion. Bohor is a region of country lanes, charming farm villages, tranquil forests and authentic rural life. The forests are home to a very healthy wildlife population, so be prepared to see animals like deer and birds of prey.

The locals are incredibly friendly, happy to see someone other than their neighbor for a change. Lastly, the climate here is particularly pleasant. Just over the Alps, we experience much less summer rainfall (30-40% less than in Kranjska Gora, for example), and the temperatures are generally a few degrees higher, while the nights cool down nicely at 650m altitude. So what are you waiting for? Immerse yourself in Rural Slovenia.

Below you’ll find a few examples of things you can do in the area. Of course, we can advise you on-site and recommend many more excursions.

Cycling

The country roads are perfect for long bike rides. But the region is quite hilly and not everyone will tackle these roads without a bit of cursing. That’s why we offer a number of electric hybrid bikes.

Twizzy Time

If you want to go out as a couple, rent our electric Twizzy. It’s eco-friendly, hilarious, and practical all at once. When you rent it, you’ll receive a fun route suggestion with tips for panoramic picnic spots, open farms, and other attractions.

Swimming

If you ever want to try different water than our lovely pool, there are some beautiful mountain streams  nearby where you can splash around under the waterfalls. For professional entertainment with dozens of slides, you can visit Lasko (20 mins) or Olimje (40 mins).

Hiking

In the immediate vicinity (all within a 30-minute drive), we’ve described a whole series of short hikes that will take you past some natural highlights in the area. You’ll receive information on-site.

Adventure Park Celje

Adventure Park Celje is a 20-minute drive away; it has a toboggan run, zipline, and tree-climbing course all in one place. And the restaurant at the mountain hut here is more than fine for a tasty lunch or dinner, with a very child-friendly menu.

Rafting, climbing, canyoning, paragliding

Looking for an adventurous daytrip? In an hour drive you can reach funparks and organisations that offer lots of activities like kayak, canyoning, sup, bushcraft, rock climbing and paragliding.

Cultural Excursions

Bohor isn’t known for refined cultural monuments, but if you want to experience folk culture, there are nice options nearby. Dive into the history of small-scale mining, explore surprising wineries, visit ancient castles, or take part in the regular excursions we organize from the estate.

City Visits

Na Skaluc is situated exactly between the Slovenian capital Ljubljana and the Croatian capital Zagreb. Both are less than a 1.5-hour drive away, making them perfect for a day trip. Closer by is Slovenia’s third and very pleasant city, Celje. It’s a 30-minute drive and it has a lot to offer. In the old town there’s still a lot to see from its ancient Roman and mediaeval history.  It also hosts fine galleries and interesting museums for the whole family (e.g. Old Castle, Technopark Celje, Tropical House). Cities Maribor and Ptuj (Slovenia’s oldest city) are both an hour drive away and are worth a visit.
